On August 4, the Indian Government approved the purchase of 12 aluminum fishing vessels from China’s Shenzhen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.
for the total purchase price of Rs 5,500 crore ($967.1 million).
The vessels will be assembled in the state of Tamil Nadu and will be manufactured at the Shenzhen shipyard.
The new aluminum fishing vessel, which is being built in Tamil Nadu, is a prototype for a new generation of aluminum fishing ships.
The government has set aside Rs 2,000 crore to finance the project.
The aluminum fishing ship will be the first of the new generation.
It is expected to have a maximum speed of 35 knots and a maximum cruising speed of 15 knots.
The Indian Navy has been planning the purchase for several years.
It would have been the second Chinese aluminum fishing craft.
